The Mountaineers is known as one of the five cricket Zimbabwean cricket franchise. This first class cricket team is based in the Manicaland and Mashonaland East area. The home matches of this team are played at the Mutare Sports Club in Mutare.

Founded in 2009, the present coach of this team is Allan Donald and the captaincy is handled entirely by Hamilton Masakadza. The team made their first class debut in 2009 at the Harare Sports Club ground against Mashonaland Eagles team. This match became a draw, due to century made by Hamilton Masakadza, the captain of the team. At the match of Logan Cup, Mountaineers finished in the third place, with three victories on hand from twelve games.

The team enjoyed their first class victory against Southern Rocks, by eight wickets. However, for their third place finish, they couldn’t contest in the finals.

At the Faithwear Metbank one day match, Mountaineers won the championship by defeating Mid West Rhinos in the finals by 3 wickets. In the semi finals, they beat Southern Rocks by 7 wickets to enter the finals. Few of the Mountaineers players at this match included Stuart Matsikenyeri (36), Tino Mawoyo (40), Shingirai Masakadza (3-20 and Hamilton Masakadza (44*).

Regardless of the fact that the Mountaineers team emerged victorious in the Stanbic Bank 20 series, they emerged victorious in the match and were shaky in the group stage. They had 3 victories from 5 games, while their counterpart team, Mashonaland Eagles had a better record compared to them, with 4 victories from 5 games. The Eagles were more leading team, by 82 run downing given to them by Ray Price, with figures of 5 for 12 off 17 deliveries and taking his fifth wicket as Natsai Mushangwe got stumped. Mountaineers got better in the final, scoring 9 wicket victory, with Hamilton scoring 64* and Tatenda with 37*.
