The Manicaland cricket team was founded in 1999 in the province of Manicaland. The team focused and played first-class cricket since their conception. The team played for the Logan Cup until the format of the team was improvised in 2004-05 season. The home matches were played by team at the Mutare Sports Club.

This club was formerly known by the name, Umtali Sports Club. This is the homeground of cricket team that hosts first class cricket matches. This is the precise venue popular for its off field controversy, especially the Sourav Ganguly and Greg Chappell spat.
