The combined North West and Gauteng first class cricket team in South Africa is referred to as Highveld Lions. This combined team participates in the limited over tournaments like Standard Bank Twenty20 and MTN domestic championship as well as SuperSport Series first class cricket competition.
The Highveld Lions has the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg with a capacity of 34,000 as its home venue. The other home venue is the Sedgars Park in Potchefstroom.

The current squad of this team is as follows – Alviro Petersen is the captain and batsman. The other batsmen are Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Jonathan Vandiar, Neil McKenzie and Stephen Cook. Some of the results of the SuperSport Series in 2009 are as follows -This team competed against Chevrolet Warriors on 26th February 2009 at Sahara Oval St George’s, Port Elizabeth. This match resulted in a draw. On 5th March 2009, Nashua Dolphins and Highveld Lions contested at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom and this match was also drawn. The Gesterner Diamond Eagles and Highveld Lions clashed against each other on 12th March 2009 and the venue was Liberty Life Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. The Lions won this encounter by 9 runs. On 26th March 2009, the Highveld Lions contested with Nashua Cape Cobras at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom. The Cobras won this match by 6 wickets.
