Chennai Superstars is based in Chennai and named after Rajnikanth, the famous film star of Tamilnadu, who is called as “Superstar”. The home ground of this team is the Mayajaal Cricket Ground. The colors of this team are Green, White and Magenta. The massage therapist is Julia Russel while the strength and conditioning coach is Corey Bocking. The physiotherapist is Anthony Smith while the assistant coach and mentor is Kharsan Ghavri.

On 21st October 2008, there was a match between Chennai Superstars and Hyderabad Heroes. The Superstars were all out for 160 in 19.3 overs. The Heroes scored 142 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Thus, the Superstars won by 18 runs. The Man of the Match was Ian Harvey who scored 49 runs in 21 deliveries. On 24th October 2008, there was a match between Delhi Giants and Chennai Superstars. The Superstars scored with 166 for 6 in 20 overs. The Giants scored 161 for 8 wickets in 20 overs. Thus, the Superstars defeated the Giants by 5 runs.
