It’s often called the second-biggest cricket league in the world and the Pakistan Super League, which is now in its fourth edition, will be played in the months of February and March, 2019. The Pakistan Super League schedule, fixtures and the venues for the tournament will be updated soon enough below.
Islamabad United will enter the fourth edition of the Pakistan Super League as the defending champions, having won their second title last year in a one-sided final that was played in Karachi. The other winners, Peshawar Zalmi, had clinched the title in its second edition that was played in 2017, beating the Quetta Gladiators in the final. The Gladiators are two-time runner-up while Zalmis have won one and lost one PSL final.
The PSL is usually played in the months of February and March each year, just before the IPL, although the fixtures for first season of the Pakistan Super League ended in February. It’s format isn’t too different from the other competitions around the world, including the IPL, BPL and CPL whereby all the teams in the tournament play each other on a home and away basis, i.e. twice apiece and the top four then qualify for the playoffs.
The playoffs consists of four games including the title-decider which sees the top two sides in the group stage face off in a qualifier that allows the losing team another shot at making it to the final. The teams placed third and fourth play an Eliminator that sees the losing team get knocked out and the winning team feature in the semi-final against the loser of the first Qualifier. The winner of this game then faces the winner of the first Qualifier in the final.
As has been the case in the PSL over the years, there’s no real home and away team given that majority of the matches are played in UAE, but teams still play each other twice. All four playoffs games are expected to be played in Pakistan, apart from four others in the lead-up to the playoffs but more information on that is still awaited.
Below, the 2019 Pakistan Super League schedule and fixtures list will be soon updated as we get closer to the start of the tournament.
