Simon Christopher Kerrigan is a professional English Cricketer who is presently signed by Lancashire County Cricket Club. He was born on 10th May 1989 in Preston in Lancashire. He plays as a specialist bowler with a bowling style of slow left arm orthodox spin. Kerrigan developed his spin bowling while playing at Fulwood and Broughton Cricket Club later on moving to Ormskirk CC.
Simon Kerrigan began his cricket career with Lancashire. He made his Second XI debut in 2009, at a time when the team reached their finals of the 2nd XI Championship as well as the semi-final of the 2nd XI Trophy. In the absence of Gary Keedy who was nursing an injury, Kerrigan along with Stephen Parry got the chance to play for the first team.
His first-class debut came in the season’s first match of Lancashire. He got a five wicket haul in the match against Warwickshire with the figures of 2 wickets for 44 runs in the first and 5 wickets for 43 runs in the second innings. His first wicket was that of English cricketer, Ian Bell.
He repeated the feat of taking five wickets on 6th May 2011 where he picked up 5 wickets for just 7 runs against Warwickshire. This performance was outstanding and hence Lancashire beat Warwickshire easily.
English selectors are keeping an eye on him but Kerrigan needs to develop on areas like fielding and batting. In total 15 First Class matches, he has picked up 39 wickets with a best of 6 for 39 runs.
