David John Balcombe is a professional English cricketer who currently plays for Hampshire County Cricket Club. This right-arm medium-fast pacer who has the potential of hitting a few shots when needed was born on 24th December 1984 in London. He runs in to bowl from quite a long distance and hence is also known as “Sight Screen” by other players in his team.
His early first-class career was spent with Durham UCCE. He was a part of several games that were played against County Championship teams. He made his first-class debut against Somerset in 2005. In spite of proving to be as expensive bowler in his initial matches, he occasionally delivered successful spells, getting the first five-wicket haul in July 2005.
Prior to that, Balcombe had played for the Second XI team of Surrey in 2004. He shifted to Hampshire in 2005, and grabbed a six-wicket haul in the very first match for the Second XI of Hampshire. Balcombe was more or less an occasional player in the next two months. He played more frequently during the 2006 season.
David Balcombe made his debut for the first-team of Hampshire in 2007 but has not been able to secure a regular place in the team. Presently, most of his cricket is played in the lower Surrey leagues.
