Chetan Sharma was a pace bowler from India. He compensated for his lack of height and built by a good bowling action and thrust from the shoulders at the juncture of delivery. When he was only 17, he made his international debut. He got the opportunity to play his first Test match when he was 18 years 288 days. During this match, on his very 5th delivery, he bowled Mohsin Khan and became the 3rd Indian to claim a wicket in the 1st over in Test cricket.
In 1985, while playing against Sri Lanka, he made 14 dismissals. He was in excellent form in England in 1986 and bagged 16 wickets in 2 Tests. He is the 1st Indian bowler to register a 10 wicket haul in England. He recorded his 4th 5 wicket haul in Test matches at New Delhi against the West Indies in 1987-88.
Chetan Sharma played in 65 ODIs and in these bowled 2835 deliveries and conceded 2336 runs while claiming 67 wickets. His bowling strike rate was 42.3, economy rate was 4.94 and bowling average was 34.86. He scored 456 runs with 101 not out as his highest score. He clobbered 4 sixers, 31 fours and 1 century and took 7 catches.
