Afridi initially came into limelight during Pakistan Under 19s successful 2004 World Cup series. He took 19 wickets and was the leading wicket taker for Pakistan. In the upcoming season, he took 80 first class wickets and made his first appearance at the International level against Sri Lanka at the end of the year. Although, he took 2 wickets, his action was criticized. This proved to be his only international appearance. After that, he has been performing nicely at the domestic level.
