Ganapathi Vignesh is a right handed batsman and right arm medium fast bowler. The main teams he has played for are Chennai Superstars, Tamil Nadu, Kolkata Knight Riders and ICL India XI. At the Indian Cricket League Twenty20 matches, he was a part of the Indian World Team. At a recent IPL auction, he was bought by the the Chennai SuperKings to play at the IPL 5 season.
Ganapathi Vignesh appeared in a first class match contested by Tamil Nadu and Delhi at Chennai (MA Chidambaram Stadium) in 2006. He was assigned the position of the No. 10 batsman in the 1st innings, but did not get a chance to bat. In the 12 overs that he bowled, 1 was maiden and he gave away 53 runs while picking up 1 wicket. In the 2nd innings, he was promoted to the no. 7 batting slot and he faced 5 deliveries in which he scored 7 runs. He was not offered to bowl in this innings. The result of this match was a draw.
In 2008, he played English Club cricket half season for the Birkenhead Park Cricket Club in the Cheshire County Cricket League. As Ganapathi was known for his opening bowling and aggressive opening batting style, he got easily selected to be part of the men squad of the Chennai Super Kings for the IPL 2011.
