Rakesh Patel is a fast medium bowler in India who was about to represent the national Indian team, but missed out a place in the final XI. In the 2002-03 tour of New Zealand, Patel was selected for the ODIs, but he sat out the tour and further was never selected in the Indian team on basis of merit.

Patel is a tall and robust bowler who has the capacity to reach the 135 kmph mark consistently. After the New Zealand tour was over, he settled down as a pace spearhead of Baroda. He played in a first class match from 23rd to 25th January 2007 at Vadodara (Moti Bagh Stadium) where the opponent team was Mumbai. In the 1st innings, he bowled 20 overs, out of which 7 were maidens, conceded 53 runs and claimed 3 wickets. He was the No. 10 batsman, but was trapped leg before wicket for no score. During the 2nd innings, he made 4 dismissals in the 19 overs that he bowled, out of which 7 were maidens and gave away 34 runs. He scored 5 runs in 13 deliveries before he was clean bowled. Mumbai won this match by 63 runs. Patel has played for Gujarat, Baroda and Ahmedabad Rockets.
