Mahesh Rawat is a wicketkeeper and right handed batsman who has been a consistent player in the Indian domestic cricket scene since the 2003-04 season. He has been a member of Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, India Red in the Challenger Trophy, Haryana at the Ranji level and Railways. Presently, he plays for the Pune Warriors India IPL team season 5.

At the domestic level, Rawat has accumulated close to 2000 runs and in this process has scored 12 fifties and 3 hundreds. At the first class level, he has a batting average of 37.8 with 115 as his highest score. He has considerable success as a wicketkeeper having made 109 dismissals out of which there are 21 stumpings and 88 catches. In spite of being a wicketkeeper, Rawat has bowled well and claimed 10 wickets at a bowling average of 17.4 and his best bowling figures are 2 for 5.

As Rawat was a skillful wicket keeper and useful contributor with the bat, it was felt that he is ideal for the Twenty20 version of cricket. In April 2007, he debuted in Twenty20 cricket against Punjab while playing for Haryana team. Further the Rajasthan Royals selected him for the inaugural season of the IPL.

Mahesh Rawat has participated in 31 Twenty20 matches and in these has amassed 328 runs at a batting strike rate of 108.97 and batting average of 23.42. His highest score was an unbeaten 56 and he clobbered 7 sixers and 27 boundaries. He made 24 stumpings and 28 catches.
