Parthiv Ajay Patel is a wicketkeeper and left handed batsman. He has been a member of teams like Rajasthan Cricket Association President’s XI, India Green, Gujarat and Chennai Super Kings. He has also played a number of Test matches and ODIs for the National Team. Presently, he has been bought by the Deccan Chargers team to play at the IPL 5 season 2012.

Patel debuted in Test cricket from 8th to 12th August 2002 at Nottingham (Trent Bridge) and the opponent was England. In the 1st innings, he was sent in to bat at the No. 8 spot, but was out for no score. He took 2 catches. In the 2nd innings, he was the No. 8 batsman and faced 60 deliveries and remained unbeaten on 19 inclusive of 1 four. The result of this match was a draw. Patel participated in his first One day International on 4th January 2003 against New Zealand at Queenstown (Davies Park). In this match, he amassed 13 runs in 31 deliveries including 1 four, while batting at the No. 7 batting slot. New Zealand won this match by 7 wickets with 146 deliveries to spare.

In 2003-04 Parthiv scored a gutsy 69 against Pakistan which had fast bowlers like Shoib Akhtar and Mohammad Sami. Prior to this he had also scored 62 runs on the Sydney Cricket Ground. He then was dropped due to a poor form with the gloves behind the wicket. In 2007 he again did wonders with his bat in domestic cricket for India A side where he managed to hit four centuries and a fifty. For this he was called up in 2008 to the National Side for the Test Series in Sri Lanka. In 2010 he hit two fifties against New Zealand and showed great promise at the International Level. Parthiv was with the Chennai Super Kings till 2010 in the IPL where he opened the innings with Matthew Hayden and did well for the side. Recently he has been selected by the Kochi Tuskers Kerala team for the IPL 2011.

He is the youngest Wicket Keeper for any Test Playing Nation. Parthiv Patel has represented his team in 20 Test matches in which he has piled up 683 runs with 69 as his highest score. His batting strike rate has been 44.72 and batting average has been 29.69. He has clobbered 93 boundaries and 4 fifties. As a wicketkeeper, he caught 41 batsmen and stumped 8 batsmen.

In the 38 One day Internationals which he played, he accumulated 736 runs at a batting average of 23.74 and batting strike rate of 76.50. 95 was his highest score. He has taken 30 catches and stumped 9 batsmen.
