Thilan Thusara Samaraweera commonly known as Thilan Samaraweera is a Right handed batsman and an occasional Right arm offbreak bowler with the Sri Lanka cricket team. He has also played for the Kandurata, Colts Cricket Club, Sinhalese Sports Club and the Sri Lanka A cricket teams.
Thilan Samaraweera started playing first class cricket in 1995. He made his debut in International cricket in a One day International match against India at Sharjah in 1998. He bowled 10 overs and gave away 41 runs also claiming the wicket of Nayan Mongia. India however went on to win the match by 3 wickets. In 2001, Samaraweera played his first test match against India at Colombo. He bowled 2 expensive overs and gave away 12 runs failing to take any wickets. He made up for his poor performance by scoring an unbeaten 103 runs in 173 balls recording his first test century. The innings included 10 boundaries. In the second innings, Samaraweera claimed the wicket of Saurav Ganguly and gave away just 10 runs in the 8 overs he bowled. Sri Lanka won the match by an innings and 77 runs.
