After the woes of the limited over series, Zimbabwe now face a much tougher challenge in the Test series against the West Indies. The first Test is scheduled to be played in Barbados.
Zimbabwe bowled well in patches in the limited over series, and their spinners were able to slow things down in the middle overs. However, they will need much more than just restricting the flow of runs, in this longest format.
Ray Price and Graeme Cremer will be the go to men for Zimbabwe, in this stern challenge against the mighty West Indies. Cremer impressed in the tour match, grabbing 7 wickets. He will be looking forward for some heroics in the first test.
Brendan Taylor did not have a good outing in the tour so far, neither as a captain nor as a batsman. He will be hoping that he returns to form, before it is all over for the Zimbabweans.
West Indies squad boasts of big names, and it shows the attitude with which they are going to play in the series, not taking their opponents lightly.
Sunil Narine has been left out of the squad for the 1st test. However, Shane Shillingford will be a good replacement for him, while he rests.
Chris Gayle returns to the fold after being rested for the completed leg of the tour. His presence in the field will definitely provide a psychological advantage to the hosts.
Also, Marlon Samuels and Shivnarine Chanderpaul are included to strengthen the batting lineup to optimum level. These two players, if settled, are always in for a big innings, a troubling sign for Zimbabwe.
The pitch in Barbados is a bit quicker than the surfaces in the rest of the West Indies, and there will be some assistance for the quick men, if they bend their backs. However, good batsmen will enjoy batting on an expected true surface tomorrow.
