Kolkata Knight Riders’ hunt for a coach continues in full earnest, as Dermot Reeve’s name got thrown into the hat as a possible contender. John Buchanan had been the coach for the first two seasons, but was sacked because of two successive bad performances in the tournaments. >
Apart from Reeve, Richard Pybus, the former coach of Pakistan, and now on coaching duties with the Titans, will also meet the team management on Saturday for the job. Pybus had had two stints as a coach of Pakistan and has also coached Middlesex for five months before having to return back citing personal reasons.
The other names in the list include John Wright, the former Indian coach, and Duncan Fletcher, a former Zimbabwean international cricketer and an English coach, who led England to their only Ashes triumph in the last couple of decades.
Wright had been a favourite to replace Buchanan, but the Knight Riders have a clause which says that the coach must need to have considerable experience with coaching T20 sides. Wright does not have the experience.
Reeve has also been a former commentator, but had his contract revoked when he walked into the commentary box after having consumed cocaine. He has also led Warwickshire to three titles in 1994 as a captain.
