Shikhar Dhawan starred again while Amit Mishra took four wickets as the Delhi Capitals exacted some revenge in a re-match of the 2020 Indian Premier League finalists.
Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma had won the toss and elected to bat, posting 9-137 with the skipper top scoring with 44 from 30 balls.
He was the only batsmen to get past 26, with Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan both falling in the 20s as the Indians’ innings never got going.
Dhawan played a steady hand in the run chase with 45 from 42 balls, while Steve Smith made 33 and Lalit Yadav finished the job with a composed 22no from 25 balls to record a strong win.
Dhawan said: “(This win) brings a lot of confidence to our team. We’re really happy.
“We just had to keep the momentum going, we knew at the end it will be difficult for the bowling side with dew.
“It was important to keep wickets in hand and at the same time have positive intent. Everyone was watching the match intensely in the dug-out and we wanted to win.”
Legbreak bowler Mishra added: “I was just trying to get wickets there and bowl slower. My style is to bowl the bowl in the air and get it to dip. I’ve been doing that for 14 years and I don’t want to change much.”
