Veteran South African quick Dale Steyn has been left off the 2020-21 contracted player list while Beuran Hendricks is the only new addition.
Cricket South Africa announced their annual list of contracted players, with 16 men and 14 women.
Steyn, 36, who has retired from Test cricket in 2019 after 93 matches and 439 wickets, is available for the Proteas in white-ball cricket.
The T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place later this year in Australia, where Steyn along with veteran batsman AB de Villiers could be involved, pending the event going ahead amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Cricket South Africa Acting Chief Executive Dr Jacques Faul said: “We have contracted 16 men’s players and 14 women’s players which we feel is the appropriate number to maintain our national squads across the various formats.
“This enables us to contract both our Test players as well as those who are limited overs specialists.
“We have decided to keep the 17th men’s contract open for the moment and players can qualify for it through performance.”
Left-arm seamer Hendricks is the new face to the contracted list, although he is 29-years-old and has represented his country across all three formats.
South Africa’s Test captain remains to be determined with de Kock along with contracted pair Temba Bavuma and Aiden Markram among the contenders.
The Proteas are next due in action with away tours scheduled in Sri Lanka and the West Indies from May to August, although it remains to be seen if they go ahead given the COVID-19 outbreak.
