Nominees
In the ICC Awards 2008 under the categories of Test Player of the Year and Cricketer of the Year the following players have been nominated – Dale Steyn of South Africa, Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka and Shivnarine Chanderpaul of West Indies. The fourth nominee for Test Player of the Year is Jacques Kallis of South Africa and for Cricketer of the Year is Graeme Smith also of South Africa.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni the Twenty20 and One-day International captain of India has been chosen as a nominee for the ODI player of the year. His other nomination is as the Twenty20 International Performance of the Year. This nomination is due to the fact that he led India to triumph in the inaugural World Twenty20 in previous September in South Africa. The other Indian to be nominated for this Twenty20 award is Yuvraj Singh. These two Indians have healthy competition from Brett Lee of Australia and Chris Gayle of West Indies. The Emerging Player of the Year has one nomination from India – Ishant Sharma. His competitors are Morne Morkel (fast bowler from South Africa), Stuart Broad (all rounder from England) and Ajantha Mendis (spinner from Sri Lanka). The master blaster from India Sachin Tendulkar is a nominee for the ODI player of the year.
The ICC awards in 2008 would be considering the performances from 9th August 2007 to 12th August 2008. These awards would be the fifth edition and are organized in Dubai.
