Match No.52 of the 2017 Indian Premier League, takes place on Friday at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi, between the Delhi Daredevils and Rising Pune Supergiant.
The Daredevils have nothing but pride left to play for, with their record of played 12 and having 10 points to their credit leaving them trailing back in sixth position in the qualifying group, and unable to progress to the knockout stages, even if they win their last two fixtures. That despite winning three of their last four outings. All a case of too little too late.
In contrast, Pune are already assured of a place in the play-offs, with all to play for, as they seek a top two finish and a place in the first Eliminator and a chance to progress straight to the Grand Final. Supergiant are currently in third spot, having played 12 games, and collected 16 points.
The Daredevils produced one of their best performances of the season last Wednesday, when they successfully chased a target of 196 away to the Gujarat Lions, with Shreyas Iyer top scoring with 96. Their most recent home appearance however, saw them slide to an humiliating 146 run defeat to the Mumbai Indians.
When the Daredevils visited Pune back in match No.9, Sanju Samson struck a magnificent century as Delhi put together 205-4 in their 20-overs. Pune were never in the hunt to chase their target down, and with Amit Mishra and Zaheer Khan taking 3-wickets each, Pune subsided to a 97-run defeat.
Pune’s last fixture took place back on 6th May, when they secured a vital victory at the reigning Champions, Sunrisers Hyderabad, by just 12-runs. That victory was their fourth in succession, and their eighth of 2017.
The two sides have faced each other three times previously in the IPL. With Pune winning twice and Delhi once.
