From 2012 to 2016, he had 21 fights. He did not win his first World Title until May 2017 when he won the IBF World Welter Weight title, taking it from Kell Brook. In 2018, he successfully defended that title twice against Lamont Peterson and Carlos Ocampo.

In March 2019, he defeated Mickey Garcia and won the IBF World Welterweight Title. He defended both of his titles in 2019 against Shawn Porter, and Danny Garcia in 2020.

In April 2022, he added the WBA Super Welterweight title to his name after he beat Yordenis Ugas at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
