Nelson made his professional debut on May 19, 2006. During this fight, he defeated Diego Villalba by knockout. He also won all his fights from that moment on until 2011. This totaled 17 fights, which includes technical knockout wins over Frank Gil, David Placencia, and John Vaughan as well as Travis Hartman, Jesse Feliciano, and Quinton Whitaker. He also won by knockout Gustavo Mejia and Damon Antoine during this time. It was his fight with Jesse Feliciano in 2010 when he earned his first title. His first loss, on the other hand, happened on April 8, 2011, after being defeated by Vincent Arroyo.
