Ricky Hatton, former British boxing world champion revealed how he considered committing suicide after he was knocked out by Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao after their Las Vegas title fight in 2009.
Hatton had divulged that right after his crushing light-welterweight defeat in 2009, he was plunged into depression and soon enough, his life was turned into a battle that involved alcohol and drugs.
According to Hatton, “Being a proud man and a warrior, to get splattered in two rounds like I did, was really hard to come to terms with… When I tried to get back into training, I realized the hunger was gone and my career was over.”
Hatton is now running a promoting business, and has confirmed that he has officially retired in July. He further reveals that when he was exposed as a drug taker in 2010, that was more or less a blessing in disguise for him.
“For someone in my position taking drugs once is nothing short of disgraceful,” Hatton shared. “The reason behind my actions and the way I was behaving wasn’t a drink or drugs thing, it was depression. I was so down, I was crying and breaking out and contemplating suicide.”
So far, Hatton has been defeated two times in his career. The other defeat was against Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in 2007.
