At an upcoming Thriller event, boxing veteran Oscar de la Hoya will be facing the Brazilian mixed martial artist Vitor Belfort in an exhibition boxing match on September 11, which is scheduled ahead of the Mexican Independence Day weekend.
Reliable sources had confirmed the news that both fighters have agreed to the boxing match-up.
The prospect location is in Las Vegas, yet the venue is still undetermined. Aside from the exciting fight, numerous musical performance from Swizz Beats and Timbaland is also expected to take place on September 10.
This is only a friendly match, and this would also mark de la Hoya’s first boxing match even since 2008 after he fell short to Manny Pacquiao. The former boxing champion is now a promoter of some of the boxing world champions, such as Julio Cesar Chavez, Fernando Vargas, and Hector Camacho.
Meanwhile, Belfort is supposed to have a prior schedule to complete a fight with Mike “The Real Tarzan” Holston, but he won’t miss the opportunity to play against one of the boxing legends. He also hoped that he got the chance to fight Evander Holyfield later this year.
Due to the global pandemic, Belfort’s contract with ONE Championship was greatly affected because he was unable to book any fight under their agency. When his contract ended with ONE Championship, he turned to boxing and will be facing de la Hoya in the coming months.
De la Hoya and Belfort are expected to wear 12-ounce gloves in the exhibition set. More details will also be released in the coming weeks.
