Recently, Floyd Mayweather posted a video that hinted or teased about his plans to enter into MMA sometime in 2018.
The video resulted in excitement as the possibility of Mayweather facing off against Conor McGregor – this time in McGregor’s territory. However, not everybody is happy with this declaration. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is one of those who are not too pleased.
“With [Mayweather] you never know [what comes next]. All is possible, but you know what? Whatever he does, it doesn’t bother me,” said Canelo about Mayweather.
When asked how Canelo would perform against McGregor, he simply said that he doesn’t know and would never know. Alvarez has made it clear that he never considered transitioning into MMA.
“I respect boxing. Boxing is my sport, that’s what I love. The other sport is something we’ll never know.”
In the meantime, Sky Bet also hints at a potential fight between McGregor and Mayweather at UFC. In the section for potential fights on the website, Mayweather stands at 9/1 while McGregor is at 1/33. A date is even indicated as Monday, December 31 at 11p.m.
As for Mayweather’s video post, McGregor responded saying he is happy for Mayweather in retirement. It was the reason he did not seek a rematch.
