Intentional foul

Intentional foul – a kind of personal foul deemed premeditated by officials. This is committed by a defensive player to stop the game. In some basketball leagues, an intentional foul can include contact that slows down an offensive player’s clear advantageous position, contact with an opponent located away from the ball who is not involved in a play and excessive contact with a player from another team while the ball is in the air or when the shooter is still airborne. Rules for calling of intentional foul may differ from one league to another.
