The Bakersfield Jam is a professional Basketball team is based in Bakersfield town in California and plays in National Basketball Association Development League (D-League). It got founded in the year 2003. Earlier this team played as Long Beach Jam, which got founded in the new American Basketball Association (ABA) in 2003. In 2005, Long Beach Jam backed out from American Basketball Association and later started playing in the 2006-07 season in the D-league and relocated to Bakersfield. The Jam Events Center is a multipurpose arena which was opened in 2009.

In 2007, the team management came up with a contest in which the latest name would be entirely decided by the fans of the team from the given choices of Desperados, Roughnecks and Oilers or keep the original name. And after voting, the management decided that the team would retain the original name. During the same time they unveiled their new logo. In early 2009 there was an announcement that the Bakersfield Jam would stop playing matches due to lack of fan attendance. But later on they changed their statement and announced that they would be playing the 2009-10 seasons.

During the 2009-10 seasons the Bakersfield Jam finished at 8th position with 17 wins and 33 losses to their account. Their form was much better in 2008-09 seasons where they finished at 3rd position with 26 wins and 24 losses. Bakersfield Jam centre player, Brian Butch was named the NBA Development League’s Impact Player of the Year, decided by the NBA D-League’s 16 head coaches for the year 2009-10.
