The Los Angeles D-Fenders is a professional basketball team representing the city of Los Angeles. LA D-Fenders is owned by Los Angeles Lakers which is the National Basketball Association’s team of Los Angeles city. Los Angeles Lakers was the first NBA franchisee to own a D-league team.. The teams name was decided by a voting system, where the fans voted for the names online and later on the D-Fenders name was selected. In 2008 the team was ready to use their new arena, Citizens Business Bank Arena, but later on the team decided against it and signed the Staples Center for the season.
The debut year of D-Fenders was very good with the team almost reaching the playoff matches, they finished the year with a figures of 23 (wins)-27 (loses). The 2008 season was much better with the impressive figures of 32-18, which helped the team to enter in playoff matches.In playoff matches the team beat their opponent the Colorado 14ers, but later they were defeated by Idaho Stampede. The 2008-09 was uneventful for the team achieving figures of 19-31 and the score decreased further in 2009-10 season, standing at 16-34. Both the teams of LA Lakers play against each other in practice matches regularly. The Lakers management are aware that the LA D-Fenders team is going to incur loss of several millions, but they also emphasize on the fact that with the kind of talent the team is developing it is worthy of the investment made.
Jordan Farmar and Coby Karl on two different occasions played for both the D-Fenders and the LA Lakers on the same day. In the year 2007 D-Fender’s Jelani McCoy got the NBA Gatorade Call-Up He was the first player in the franchise’s history to get this recognition. In 2009, Stephane Lasme, the Defensive Player of the Year got awarded the NBA Gatorade Call
