The Albany Great Danes Basketball team represents the University at Albany, The State University of New York in New York and participates in the America East Conference. The team plays their home games at SEFCU Arena. Currently, the team is coached under Will Brown who is into his 9th season as a coach.

The team played under the guidance of coach Richard “Doc” Sauers from 1955 till 1997 who successfully led the team to four NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) post-season tournaments and eleven NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association). Sauers stayed with the team for 41 seasons and crossed the 700th win mark in 1997.

The Danes won the America East Conference Tournament in 2006 and earned the school their very first NCAA Tournament berth. In March 2006, the Danes became the first 16-seeded team to defeat a 1st-seeded team in a Division I tournament. In 2006-07, the team won their second America East Conference title.

In the 2008-09 season, Albany got their first chance in 9 years as a conference member to host the America East Conference Tournament at their home arena, SEFCU Arena.

Major Achievements

The team has won two America East conference titles.
