The Guangdong Winnerway (Hongyuan) Southern Tigers are better known as the Guangdong Winnerway (Hongyuan) or the Guangdong Southern Tigers and is owned by the Guangdong Winnerway (Hongyuan) Group from China. The team is headquartered in Dongguan, Guangdong. The team has also played few of its games in Zhongshan, also in Guangdong. Their arena is situated in China and play at the Dongguan Stadium

The team was founded in 1993 by the Guangdong Winnerway group. The players wear white, black and red colored uniforms. Li Chunjiang is the current head coach for the team. Being a part of the Chines Basketball Association (CBA), the team has won 3 consecutive CBA championships from 2003-04 till 2005-06. While competing for the South Division, the tigers defeated the Jilin Northeast Tigers to secure a place at the quarter-finals and the Bayi Rockets to enter the semi-finals but lost to the Jiangsu Dragons at the finals.

The last two championships that the Tigers played, they were up against the Bayi Rockets for the finals. Back in 2002-03 and in 2006-07 also the team had lost the finals to the Rockets. Currently playing for the New Jersey Nets, Yi Jianlian played for the Tigers from 2002-03 season to 2006-07 season before being picked up by the Nets in 2007. Orlando Magic’s All-rounder, Laron Profit also played with the Tigers for 2 seasons in 2002-03 and 2003-04 before returning back to NBA.

Some of the most popular players that played for the Tigers include Li Chunjiang, Jason Dixon, Li Qun, Du Feng, Zhu Fangyu, Wang Shipeng and Lamond Murray.

Major AchievementsThe team is a 5 time CBA championships winner from 2003-04 till 2005-06 and then again from 2007-08 till 2008-09.

They secured second place at the CBA championships for 3 times and stood third at the same twice.

The team won the Grand Waldo Cup in 2008.
