David Emil Andersen was born in Carlton in Victoria and is an Australian professional basketball player. This 7 ft tall athlete is at present playing for the Houston Rockets. At the Australian Institute of Sport, he started playing basketball and signed his first professional contract with the Wollongong Hawks of the Australian National Basketball League in 1998. However, after playing for one year, he moved to the Italian A League and signed a multiyear contract with Virtus Bologna, with whom he has won many titles in his four year span with the team. But, when this team went into bankruptcy in 2003, he moved to the Italian club, Montepaschi Siena, with whom he won the Italian Championship.

Later on, he moved again to the Russian Super League A club of Moscow to win the All-Euroleague First Team selection in 2004-05 season. Prior to the 2008-09 season, he got transferred to the Spanish ACB League club, FC Barcelona. And with this team, he won the Spanish Championship.

Andersen did his high school studies from the Australian Institute of Sports and was selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the second round of the 37th pick in the 2002 NBA Draft.

His former teams include Wollongong Hawks from 1998-99, Virtus Bologna from 1999-2003, Montepaschi Siena from 2003-04, CSKA Moscow from 2004-08 and FC Barcelona from 2008-09.

Career highlights

Andersen has been awarded the Albert Schweitzer MVP 1998, as the Australian Junior Player of the Year in 1998, the Italian League Finals MVP in 2004 and the All-Euroleague First Team in 2005.
