James E Baechtold is a retired American basketball player. He did his high school from Moon in Coraopolis. He used to play basketball for the Eastern Kentucky University. James got selected by the Baltimore Bullets in the first round with 2nd overall pick of the 1952 NBA Draft.

The forward/guard positioned athlete was 6’4 and weighed 205 lbs when he started playing for the Bullets in 19952-52 game and also for the New York Knicks in 1953-57 season in the NBA for 321 games. His jersey numbers were 18 and 10.

From 1962 to 1966, he served as Eastern Kentucky University’s head basketball coach. During his five seasons, he coached two OVC runners-up and also the 1965 conference championship team. In his entire career in NBA, he played 321 games scoring 3123 points, 685 assists and total rebound of 1009.

Career highlights

He was the OVC Coach of the year in 1965. Later on, he served for many years as an Associate Professor in the University’s Parks and Recreation Department.
