Bunce completed his initial education from Ramona High School in Riverside, California. Thereafter, he shifted to Utah State University. During the 1967 NBA draft, he was selected by Seattle Supersonics in the 4th round. He was the 12th pick and overall 43rd pick. In the 1967-68 season, he was a member of Anaheim Amigos. He played for 3 teams in the 1968-69 season which were Denver Rockets, Dallas Chapparals and Houston Mavericks. In his entire career, he had an average of 6.4 rebounds and 8.9 points per game.
During the first season of operation in the ABA, Bunce was the tallest player in the association. He was selected to play in the 1968 ABA All-Star Game.
