During the 2007-08 season, Rick Rickert made a good impression on the New Zealand Breaker fans, but during mid-season was struck by a back injury. His comeback road was very long and painful. However, when he returned to the game, he played 13 matches for his club and had an average of 10.7 rebounds and 17.8 points per match.
In 2001, Rickert participated in a High School All American game. At the University of Minnesota, he played excellently and was included in the first Big Ten Freshman of the Year. He is still the holder of some freshman records like highest scoring average (14.2 points per game) and maximum points (441). After finishing 2 years at the college level, he opted for the 2003 NBA draft. Everybody was astonished as he was omitted from the first round picks. Finally, he was chosen by Minnesota Timberwolves as the 55th overall pick.
While playing in the NBA development league, he also participated in competitive leagues in Spain, Greece and Slovenia.
Over the past 2 seasons, Rick Rickert has participated in 43 games in the NBL. His field goal percentage was 0.54, 3-point field goal percentage was nil and free throw percentage was 0.66. He recorded 68 assists, 641 points, 15 steals and 382 rebounds.
