Stephen Hoare represented North Melbourne Giants from 1995 to 1997 and played for West Sydney Razorbacks during the 1999-2000 season. From 2001 onwards, he has been affiliated with Melbourne Tigers. He plays in the position of Forward. His weight is 100 kg and height is 201 centimeters.
Hoare won the NBL Best Sixth Man award in 2005-06 and 2006-07. He was a member of the NBL All Star team in 2004-05. During the 2003 and 2008 NBL Best Sixth Man award, he was ranked second overall. During the 2005 season, he was ranked 2nd in the team for rebounds averaging 8.7 per game as a starter and led the team in assists at 4.5 assists per game. He won the Melbourne Tigers Mr Efficient award in 2006-07 and 2007-08.
