High School and College Career
Lopez attended the San Joaquin Memorial High School. He and Robin were on the same team along with fellow NBA player Quincy Pondexter. When the twins were in their senior year, they were both recruited to play for Stanford University. He played for Stanford from 2006 to 2008.
While there, he was named to the First-team All-Pac 10. In 2008, he decided to forgo the rest of his college eligibility and was drafted into the NBA.
Career
He was drafted during the 2008 NBA Draft. He was selected in round 1 and the 10th Overall Pick, chosen by the then-New Jersey Nets. He made his NBA debut with the Nets in October 2008. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in his rookie year.
In 2012, he was re-signed by the team for a $61 million contract. In 2013, he was named an NBA All-Star. This was his first All-Star appearance.
In 2017, he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers along with Kyle Kuzma. He debuted with the Lakers in October 2017. An ankle injury caused him to miss games in December and January. In 2018, he signed to play for the Milwaukee Bucks.
He was part of the Bucks team that won the 2021 NBA Finals against the Phoenix Suns. A back injury in October 2021 sidelined him for a few games. He underwent surgery in December 2021. He returned to active play in March 2022.
He had an excellent 2022-23 season as the Bucks topped the Eastern Conference before losing in the NBA playoffs first round. Lopez was named to the 2023 NBA All-Defensive First Team for the first time.
