Josh Powell is a professional basketball player from the United States of America. Powell went to the North Carolina State University and was part of the 2005 NBA Draft. In college, Powell averaged at 12.4 ppg with a 5.2 average in rebounds, his best performance in the sophomore year. He decided to play in Europe after graduation, pushing off his stint in the NBA.
Unpicked by any team in the Draft, Powell became a free agent and signed a contract with the Dallas Mavericks. Powell began in the D-League and his solid performances warranted a call up by the NBA franchise and played only when the game had been decided. Injuries to Josh Howard and Keith Van Horn, as well as rest for Nowitzki meant that Powell would get more game time.
In 2006, Powell was traded out to the Indiana Pacers for the 2006-07 season. In 2007, he was traded out to the Golden State Warriors and in the same year, went to the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clippers waived him off after finding themselves in surplus of Centers and Powell signed up for his 5th team in 4 years, the Los Angeles Lakers.
