Sam Bowie used to play in the position of Center-Forward. He was 7 feet 1 inch in height and 235 lbs in weight. While he played in the NBA (National Basketball Association), he always wore jersey no. 31. He played for Portland Trail Blazers from the 1984-85 season to the 1988-89 season. He was drafted to New Jersey Nets from 1989-90 to 1992-93. From 1993-94 to 1994-95, he was a member of Los Angeles Lakers.

Initially, Bowie attended Lebanon High School in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Further, he took admission in the Univeristy of Kentucky. During the 1984 NBA draft, he was chosen by Portland Trail Blazers in the 1st round. He was the 2nd pick and overall 2nd pick. He played for 10 seasons in the NBA.

In the University of Kentucky, Bowie took part in 3 seasons from 1979 to 1984 and got 2761 playing minutes in 96 games. His field goal percentage was 0.522 and free throw percentage was 0.735. He accumulated 843 rebounds, 191 assists, 282 personal fouls and 1285 points.
