Nate McMillan is a former professional basketball player and basketball coach in the National Basketball Association. He played his entire professional career with the Seattle Supersonics. Later, he coached for them and other NBA teams including the Portland Trail Blazers, Indiana Pacers, and Atlanta Hawks.

High School and College Career

He attended William G. Enloe High School in Raleigh, North Carolina. Later, he attended Chowan University and was there from 1982 to 1984. He later transferred to the North Carolina State University and was there from 1984 to 1986.

Professional Career

McMillian turned pro in 1986 and was drafted by the Seattle Supersonics in 1986 in the second round. He played the entirety of his career with Seattle, retiring in 1998 and transitioning into coaching.

In 1994 and 1995, he was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team. In 1994, he was the NBA Steals Leader. After he retired, Number 10 was retired by the Supersonics.

In 1998, he started as an assistant coach for Seattle. In 2000, he was the head coach for the team. Then from 2005 to 2012, he coached for the Portland Trail Blazers, and from 2013 to 2016, he was an assistant coach for the Indiana Pacers. From 2016 to 2020, he became the head coach for the team.

From 2020 to 2021, he was an assistant coach for the Atlanta Hawks. He served as head coach from 2021 to 2023.
