N’Dumba Capel was born and raised in Geneva, Switzerland with his mother and his brothers. Capel’s first interest was soccer, but he was convinced by his brother to change his sports due to his height. After he met with Thabo Sefolosha, Capel took interest in basketball.


Before joining the NBA, he was a player in Elan Chalon and became one of the representatives for the 2014 Nike Hoop Summit. This lighted up his interest to be part of the NBA when he joined the NBA Draft in the same year.

In June 2014, he became the 25th overall selected by the Houston Rockets. By the following year, he signed with the Rockets and debuted in a match against Toronto Raptors. The Rockets also gave him the assignment to play for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, an NBA G League affiliate of the ROckets.

In February 2020, he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Robert Covington and Jordan Ball. He also debuted in a match against Detroit Pistons with a score of 7 points with 9 rebounds.
