Kelan Martin is a professional basketball player who played for the Grand Rapids Gold. He is known for being included in the 2018 AP Honorable Mention All-American and 2018 First-Team All-Big East.

Before playing for the NBA, he joined the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg.

Martin is more interested in playing American football and was competing for the summer teams when he was in high school at Ballard High School. However, he stopped playing football and proceeded to improve his running skills.

In his junior season, he became joined the school basketball team, where he scored 23 points with 14 rebounds in a match against Montgomery County. He also led the team to reach the championship with a score of 19 points with 12 rebounds.

His best performance was in his senior when he scored 16 points in a match against Trey Lyles and 28 points against Trinity High School. Overall, he accumulated 2,014 points in his whole high school career.

Moving on to college, he chose to commit to Butler under the coachmanship of Chris Holtmann. In his freshman season, he scored 23 points in a match against Loyola (Maryland). This performance earned him to win Big East Rookie of the Week.

In 2016, Butler won against Georgetown, where Martin made a significant contribution of 35 points with 8 rebounds. By then, he was named twice as the Big East Player of the Week. He also scored 15.7 points with 6.8 rebounds per game during the NCAA Tournament.

By the beginning of his junior season, he was included in the Preseason First Team All-Big East and won Big East Player of the Week again in December 2016.

Career

His first appearance as a professional basketball player is when he joined Riesen Ludwigsburg after going undrafted.

In 2019, he signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves to join the NBA Summer League. It was a 2-way contract, so he could divide his time playing with the Timberwolves’ NBA G League affiliate, the Iowa Wolves. In 2020, he signed with the Indiana Pacers but was later on waived by the Pacers in 2022.

In February 2022, he was acquired by the Boston Celtics with a 10-day contract twice. By the next month, he played for the Grand Rapids Gold.
