Tina Charles is a professional basketball player who is currently playing for the Seattle Storm as the center player for the WNBA. She was well-known in the Huskies of Honor in 2010, making her the 2nd player to be recognized while still actively playing in her field. She was also recognized as the 2010 WNBA Rookie of the Year and 2012 WNBA Most Valuable Player.

Tina Alexandria Charles was born in New York City, USA, and is currently active in her foundation called Hopey’s Heart Foundation. Aside from basketball, she is a well-established and vocal philanthropist and has sponsored a school in Mali. Due to her participation in these projects, she was given the Mannie Jackson Basketball’s Human Spirit Award.


Before she stepped foot in NBA, Charles committed to play for the University of Connecticut, and she led her team to win the national title. She was also included as one of the Top 10 players to play on the State Farm All-America team. In 2010, she was given the Big East Conference Player of the Year award.

When she joined the 2010 WNBA Draft, she was the number 1 overall selected by the Connecticut Sun. During her first season, she won the Rookie of the Year, where she had the most number of rebounds. Two years later after her professional debut, she became the 2012 WNBA Most Valuable Player.

She also went overseas, as she played for the Galatasaray in Turkey for 1 season, and Wisla Can-Pack Krakow in Poland for two seasons.

Currently, she signed with the Seattle Storm after her struggling career with the Phoenix Mercury.
