James Bailey was a professional basketball player playing with the Phoenix Suns at the Center and Forward positions. He wore the number 2 jersey and stood 6 feet and 9 inches tall weighing in at 220 lbs.

James Bailey did hid schooling from at the Xaverian High School in Westwood, Massachusetts. He later attended the Rutgers University and played with the college basketball team called the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. He was later drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics in 1979. He played with the SuperSonics for three seasons and was traded to the New Jersey Nets in 1982. In 1983, Bailey was playing with the Houston Rockets and with the New York Knicks in 1985 after a year long break from the NBA in 1984. He left the Knicks to return to his former team New Jersey Nets in 1987. After just a season, Bailey was traded to the Phoenix Suns in 1988 after which he retired from the NBA.
