He attended both the Warsaw Community High School and the Christ School, and college prep school. While in high school, he was named North Carolina Mr. Basketball. He later committed to play for Duke University.

He stayed with Duke from 2009 to 2013. While at Duke, he was named to the First-Team All-ACC in 2013. He also helped his team become NCAA Champions.

Professional Career

Plumlee was drafted into the NBA by the Brooklyn Nets. He signed with the team in July and he made his NBA debut in November of that year. In his rookie year, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

In 2015, he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers along with Pat Connaughton. In 2015, the Trail Blazers traded him to the Denver Nuggets. He played with the Nuggets from 2017 to 2020. For the 2020 to 2021 season, he played with the Detroit Pistons. In August 2021, the Pistons traded him to the Charlotte Hornets.

In February 2023, he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. In 2024, he signed a two-way contract with the team that also had him play for the Ontario Clippers in the NBA G League.
