Born on October 6, 2021 in the city of Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Jonathan Kuminga stands 6 feet and 7 inches tall. He started playing basketball when he was a kid in Congo. He moved to the United States in 2016 to pursue a high school basketball career. Kuminga attended Huntington Prep in Huntington, West Virginia. In his sophomore year, he moved to Our Savior New American School in New York. Then he went on to attend the Patrick School, which is located in Hillside, New Jersey.
While he played for Our Savior New American, he was named the Slam Dunk to the Beach’s most valuable player in January 2019. He also received the MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year honor for that season. In his junior season, Kuminga transferred to The Patrick School, in Hillside, New Jersey. His season debut was against the Roselle Catholic High-school where he scored 20 points during the game.
He received a number of offers from colleges such as Texas Tech, Duke, the Kentucky Wildcats, and the Duke Blue Devils. He turned this down and instead decided to forgo a college career in favor or joining the NBA G League Ignite. By the end of his high school career, he was listed as one of the best players in his class.
He signed a 1-year contract with the NBA G League Ignite. Ignite is associated with the G League and Kuminga made his debut with them in a game against the Sta Cruz Warriors. During his career with Ignite, he averaged 15.8 points per game. He also averaged 7.2 rebounds with 2.7 assists.
In 2021, he was drafted by the Golden State Warriors. Kuminga was their 7 pick during round one of the 2021 Draft. He signed with the team on August 2021. He currently plays power forward/small forward. He has been listed on of the most promising rookie players for the season.
