Career

He attended Wheeler High School. While there, he played on the basketball team. In his senior year, he helped his team win the state championships for the Georgia High School Association. In 2014, he became a part of the US Basketball Men’s U18 National Team, where he won a 2014 FIBA Americas Championship. In 2015, he was a McDonald’s All-American. He was also named Player of the Year by Gatorade Georgia.

In College, he was recruited to play for the Golden Bears at the University of California, Berkley. He played for the Golden Bears from 2015-to 2016 where he was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year.

He was drafted into the NBA in 2016 and was the third overall pick by the Boston Celtics. He signed his rookie contract with them in July of the same year. He made his NBA debut in October when the Celtics went up against the Brooklyn Nets. He scored 9 points for the team. At the end of his rookie season with the NBA, he was made a member of the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.

During the 2017-2018 season, he remained an important member of the Celtic team, setting career highs regularly. In this season, he became the youngest player from Boston Celtics to have scored 30 or more points during a playoffs game. He started the 2018-2019 season with a bit of a lull but eventually recovered by the end of the year.

In the 2019-2020 season, he signed an extension of his contract with the Celtics, worth $115 Million. In December 2020, he scored another career-high with 42 points. He was named part of the 2021 NBA All-Star Team in February 2021.

In 2022, he tied a record with Larry Bird and Kevin McHale for scoring at least 30 points a game four times in a season. He achieved this together with Jayson Tatum.
