Penelope Jane Taylor is a retired professional Australian basketball player in the WNBA. She is a two-time Olympic silver medalist and a three-time WNBA champion. While playing In the WNBA, she won three championships with the Phoenix Mercury.
Taylor’s professional career started with the Australian Women’s National Basketball League in 1997 to 1998. In the 2011 WNBA draft, she was selected by the Cleveland Rockers as 11th overall pick in the first round. In 2004, she was selected by the Phoenix Mercury during the WNBA dispersal draft.
Taylor was instrumental to the 2007 WNBA championship win of the Mercury and she was also chosen as a reserve for the All-Star game. She was sidelined during the 2009 and 2012 Seasons due to injuries. During the 2014 preseason, she worked with the Mercury health staff to improve her playing condition.
Taylor announced her retirement at the end of the 2016 Season. She also played internationally for Turkish, Russian, and Chinese leagues during the WNBA off-season.
