Tina Alexandria Charles Is a professional American basketball player in the WNBA. She is an Olympic gold medalist, a WNBA scoring champion, and a WNBA MVP. She currently plays in the center position for the New York Liberty.

Her basketball career started at Christ the King High School where she was named as “Miss Basketball” for the state of New York and garnered many other awards. She continued to improve her skills at the University of Connecticut where she became the leading scorer in the history of the institution.

She was selected by the Connecticut Sun as the first overall pick in the 2010 WNBA draft. Charles created an all-time league record for rebounds in her debut season and became the Rookie of the Year. In the 2012 Season, she led the league in recorded double-doubles and was named as the WNBA MVP. Charles also set the record for being the fastest WNBA player to reach 900, 1,000, and 1,100 rebounds respectively.

Right before the 2014 draft, she was traded to the New York Liberty in exchange for draft conditions. She had the best career season in 2016 where she recorded a career-high shooting of 21.5 points per game. She was again named to the WNBA All-Star game in 2017.

She renewed her contract with the Liberty in 2018 and would go on to make her sixth All-Star Game appearance. Charles also played internationally for Turkish, Polish, and Chinese leagues.
