He is of Jamaican descent and although he was born in New York, his parents moved to Connecticut when he was seven years old.
High School and College Career
He attended and played high school basketball for St. Thomas Moore High School. Before that, he attended the Capital Preparatory Magnet School. He was known as one of the most dominating centers during his high school career. By the time he was a senior, he had received several college offers and he was rated as one of the top recruits in the country.
Drummond committed to play for the University of Connecticut. While there, he was named to the Big East All-Freshman Team.
Professional Career
He declared for the NBA in 2012, forgoing the rest of his college eligibility. He was chosen in the first round of the 2012 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons. He was the 9th draft pick that year. In his rookie year, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.
In 2016, he was named an NBA All-Star for the first time in his career. He was also named to the All-NBA Third-Team and this was the first year that he led the league in rebounds. From 2018-2020, he continued to lead the league in rebounds. In 2018, he was again named an All-Star.
In 2020, the Pistons traded Drummond to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He and the team reached a buy-out deal and Drummond went on to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers. The following year, he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. In February 2022, he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets after they waived him in 2022, and he signed with the Chicago Bulls.
In 2024, he was fined by the Bulls for an inappropriate gesture.
