In the 2013-2014 NBA Finals, the Spurs defeated the Heat in the NBA Finals and Leonard was hailed as the MVP with his average of 17.8 points. After Magic Johnson, he became the third-youngest player to win the MVP award.

Plagued by eye and hand injuries, Leonard missed as much as 15 games during the 2014 to 2015 Season. Despite having a difficult start, he was still awarded the NBA Defensive Player of the Year. However, the Spurs still lost the series.

The Spurs was able to re-sign Leonard in 2015 and he helped the Spurs extend their NBA-record home winning streak as well as set a franchise record with their 64th victory with a win over the Toronto Raptors. He also earned his second consecutive Defensive Player of the Year.

During the 2016 to 2017 Season, he set 3 career-high milestones in shooting, from 35 points to 38 points, and finally 41 points – leading him to be the first Spurs player since Mike Mitchell in 1986 to score at least 30 points in 6 consecutive games.
